Questions about the use of honorific verbs in Korean.

Hello. I have a question about the honorific verb forms while learning Korean. For example, when using a form like '갑니다', is this meant to elevate the listener? Or is it something that should always be used regardless of the speaker? For instance, when saying '우리 사장님이 마트에 갔습니다', should I still use '-습니다'? If I were to tell a friend that the boss went to the store, would I use '-습니다' then as well? I'm curious whether '-습니다' elevates the boss or the conversation partner. I can't speak Korean directly, but I wanted to ask this to compare it with other languages. Thank you.
