Is it common to meet the parents before going on a blind date?

Hello! I am soon going to have a blind date, but there is a slightly unusual situation, so I would like to ask for advice. My mentor and the other person's parents arranged the blind date, and the other person lives overseas and is planning to return to Korea next month. However, before that person arrives, their parents invited me to lunch first. Is it common to meet the parents first without the other person, or is it a bit of a strange situation?
