For those working as English instructors in Korea, how do you deal with visa and severance pay issues when your contract with the academy suddenly ends? Recently, an American instructor is worried about whether he can receive severance pay before completing a year.
According to Korean labor law, severance pay should be given to employees who have worked for more than a year at the same workplace, but I heard that some academies terminate contracts before a year is up. If a contract is terminated intentionally to avoid paying severance, is there a legal way to respond?
Also, visa issues are important, so can you provide any advice on the visa status after the contract ends? Sharing experiences or advice on such situations would be very helpful.
