Which country should I choose to study at university, Korea or Japan?

Hello! I am currently contemplating whether to pursue my university life in Japan or Korea. Both countries are known for their attractive cultures and safe environments, but I am concerned about the high cost of living. I am a U.S. citizen and have not visited either country yet. However, I am very interested in their cultures, polite people, and organized social systems. Additionally, I would like to make many friends in bustling areas like 강남 or 홍대 in Korea. I am also pondering which major would be economically advantageous and which language would be best to learn. Are there any individuals who have experienced university life in Korea as a foreigner or can provide related advice? Which country would be a better choice?
