I'm curious about the true meaning! How is the Korean word '정말' used?

Hello! I'm a foreigner who has been in Korea for 6 months. I'm studying Korean, but I'm really confused about the word '정말' (jeongmal) these days.
I'm studying a Korean book from Billy Go in Itaewon, and I saw the word '정말' in the book. For example, in the sentence '햄버거를 정말 먹고 싶습니다' (I really want to eat a hamburger), the word '정말' is used to mean 'really want to do.' However, at first, I understood '정말' as 'Are you really going to do that?'
I'm wondering if '정말' can be used in both meanings, or if I misunderstood. I'm really curious about these nuances while studying Korean.
If anyone has a similar experience or is knowledgeable in Korean, please give me some advice! Thank you so much! ㅠㅠ
