I am facing many concerns about life in Korea as I am about to enlist in the military soon. After living abroad for 13 years, I returned to Korea to start my university life, but I have encountered many unexpected cultural differences and difficulties in adapting. In particular, the high standards regarding appearance and strong gender stereotypes felt in places like Gangnam or Hongdae have been significant obstacles to my adjustment. Additionally, the culture in Korea tends to prioritize groups over individuals. For example, it is difficult to choose a menu without asking for others' opinions at meal gatherings, and it is disappointing that the use of automated kiosks reduces contact with people. The extreme respect culture towards superiors also makes it hard to express one's opinions. Despite these challenges, I feel a sense of pride when Korean culture, like K-pop or K-dramas, is recognized worldwide. However, I do not wish to raise a child in such an environment. How do you feel about life in Korea? Also, what do you think are the positive aspects of living in Korea? Are there advantages like transportation or living costs, and other benefits?
