Foreigners in Korea who seek compliments about their appearance, why is that?

One of the things I've felt while living in Korea is that foreigners want to be recognized for their appearance when they come to Korea. This is especially noticeable in areas like Gangnam or Hongdae. They seek compliments for looks that may not have received much attention in their home countries, but often display an attitude that seems to evaluate the appearance of Koreans in the process. Even though they realize that grooming oneself like the stars of Korean dramas or celebrities is not easy, why does this behavior keep repeating?
I wonder what the reasons are for foreigners exhibiting such behavior in Korea. Of course, not all foreigners act this way, but the impression left by some of their actions is strong. How do you view this phenomenon? If anyone around you has had similar experiences, please share your thoughts.
