I'm curious about seat selection on buses and subways in Korea.

There is something I feel when using public transportation in Korea. Despite many empty seats, why do Koreans choose to sit right next to someone? Recently, when I took the bus, there were almost no passengers, and there were many empty seats. However, a Korean passenger who got on at the next stop sat right next to me. That seat wasn't anything special. With so many other options available, I find it hard to understand why they choose to sit this way. Has anyone had a similar experience? I would like to seek advice on how to accept such situations. Could there be a cultural reason for this? I am curious about your opinions.
